Easy Steps To Replace Your Kitchen Faucet That Anyone Can Do...

Do you have a leaky kitchen faucet? Why not replace your faucet with a modern more efficient kitchen faucet and save money too! Our easy how-to steps for removing a kitchen faucet and installing a kitchen faucet will make replacing your faucets a snap!

Because everyone's situation is unique we'll be making some generalizations about how to replace your kitchen faucet.

Be sure to pay attention to the configuration of your sink openings: measure the openings and measure the distance of the tailpieces across the center.

Also, if possible save yourself future headaches by replacing your old kitchen faucet with a quality name brand like Moen kitchen faucets, Delta kitchen faucets, Kohler kitchen faucets or Grohe kitchen faucets for example. This way you'll be able to get replacement faucet parts in the future more easily if you need to.

Steps for Removing A Kitchen Faucet

When it comes to working with kitchen sinks and faucets, you'll need to have some basic tools handy (please see our faucet maintenance tools for a detailed list.) You'll also need to set aside about 30 minutes to one hour in order to complete the job.

Before we get started it's important to mention that a little planning goes a long way! Please be sure that when you're ready to replace your kitchen faucet that you have the correct one for your kitchen sink! If your sink is configured for single hole kitchen faucets then be sure to purchase the right one ahead of time! If you haven't picked out your new faucet yet, visit our kitchen faucet review section for some great ideas!

Step 1:
Shut-off the water supply; valves should be under the sink. If not, trace the supply pipes to the source and shut-off water at that point. If you don't have shut-off valves under the sink, now would be the perfect time to install them!

Step 2:
Disconnect the supply tubes. Depending upon the age of your kitchen sink plumbing, it might be a good time to also replace the supply tubes (vinyl/braided) as they do wear out.

Step 3:
Now that you're under the sink, squirt some WD-40 or similar type oil on the faucet mounting nuts and coupling nuts on the tailpiece to help loosen them.

Special Tip: You'll need a basin wrench or other such plumbing wrench for this step.

Step 4:
Now you should be able to crawl out from under the sink and pull the kitchen faucet off. Before installing your kitchen faucet be sure to clean off the area where the old faucet was with a putty knife, scouring pad, etc.

We hope these steps help you out. We also realize not all projects will go as smoothly as the steps outlined above. If you're still having difficulty removing your kitchen faucet or installing your kitchen faucet after following the steps above, we welcome your questions.
