WR Two-Handle Bathroom Faucet Pop-Up Drain Leaking

by Rob
(MI, USA)

We recently moved into our new home in October 2009. My wife and I were both happy to see that our 3 bathrooms had all been recently updated with stylish new two-handle faucets.

But, shortly after getting settled in, things started to happen...you know, furnace doesn't work right, light switches aren't wired properly, bathroom sinks won't hold water!

At first the bathroom sinks not holding water wasn't that big of a deal to me...at least they weren't leaking!

But, my kids were starting to complain about not being able to play with their toys in the sink...now something had to be done!

Upon my first quick look at the bathroom sinks I noticed that the main plunger in the sink wasn't seating tightly against the flange in the sink when I pulled up on the lift rod on the two-handle faucet.

So, I next jiggled the main plunger in the sink hoping that it would simply fall into its proper place and hold water...no such luck!

Now I knew I was going to have to do some real work...fortunately for me it really wasn't that bad or hard to fix.

Here's what I had to do to finally fix the problem.

I got under the sink and noticed that the pop-up drain assembly wasn't installed properly.

So, I first inserted the ball rod into the hole at the bottom of the main plunger.

I then placed one end of the spring clip on the end of the ball rod. I then passed the tip of the rod through the hole in the lift rod strap and then through the hole on the other end of the spring clip.

Lastly, I inserted the bottom of the lift rod into the hole at the top of the lift rod strap and then I tightened it with the thumb screw.

I had to play with it a couple of times until I chose the correct hole on the lift rod strap, but after that it was done after about 20 minutes!

I hope this helps you out!
